Sunrise NYC is a group of powerful young people fighting for a Green New Deal.

We’re college students, protestors, artists, progressive tie-wearers, freelancers, teachers, singers, cookie bakers, basement dwellers, subway riders, civically-engaged middle schoolers, GIF junkies, club fanatics, hikers, and generally just young New Yorkers joining together to advance and achieve intersectional climate justice solutions for the most vibrant city in our country.

We Hit Our Phonebanking Goal for the NY Primaries

Our Goal

57,764 / 50,000 Calls

Sunrise NYC’s #1 focus for May and June 2020 was phonebanking. We called on behalf of the slate of GND champions we endorsed in NYC—reaching out to voters with mutual aid resources and information on the Democratic primary.

Our next hub meeting is on November 18th, 2020.

New members are welcome! Join us at 7pm on zoom.

An open letter about organizing during quarantine:

While we may not be knocking on doors or rallying in the streets, 600+ Sunrise NYC members are still putting our brainpower and creative energy into advancing climate justice in NYC and beyond.

Zoomed out we may be, since March we’ve been in a new highly-active phase defined by deep-organizing. The new all-digital reality hasn’t stopped us from growing ever stronger, resilient, and dynamic.

New members keep finding us online — including you — thank you for coming. We can’t wait to show you around. There’s a zillion active slack threads: op-eds, art, political endorsements, direct action, trainings, and social media. We’d love to plug you in. We need your help.

-Sunrise NYC

Sunrise NYC changes the conversation through visible protests and loud moments of moral clarity.

Our priorities during quarantine.

  1. Support the needs of the most physically vulnerable and frontline workers.

  2. Support the needs of the financially insolvent, who need food, shelter, and money NOW.

  3. Advocate for the People’s Bailout that advances priorities 1 and 2, and wherever possible a Green Stimulus that aligns new jobs and stimulus programs with the Green New Deal.

  4. Elect progressive climate champions. Organize phonebanks, host unique and rewarding digital events, and otherwise GOTV on June 23rd 2020.

  5. Build and contribute to mutual aid networks inclusive of our members, our roommates, classmates, neighbors, and our friends from childhood. We’re all in this together.
